A day steeped in goodness

is like a hot cup of tea and a cozy blanket.

A dozen home baked cookies

passed over a snow bank to my granddaughter.

I love you nanny.

I love you sweetheart.

Be safe in the snow.

Don’t slip.

Finding a parking spot right outside the hairdressers

and not minding that I had to take two tries to parallel park.

Nobody seemed to be bothered at all.

Least of all me.

An afternoon at the hairdressers

a stylist who radiates goodness and smiles with delight when I walk in.

“I saw your name in my book and I was so excited you were coming today..”

She has a little painted rock at her stand that says, “Jesus loves you.”

We pick up our conversation where we left off months ago

like two old friends who have so much to tell each other.

She prefaces each hair treatment with the words,

“as long as you’re happy that’s all that matters.”

She doesn’t mind my little quirks:

Not too hot.  Not too cold please

I don’t like my head too far back in the sink.

I like to sit up between treatments.

“as long as you’re happy that’s all that matters.”

A quick stop at the grocery store

and a warm smile from a new cashier,

“you’re new here”

I know them all by heart.

As I unpack my groceries

Maisie spins around my feet

so excited that I’m home she can’t possibly contain herself

one moment longer.

Her whole being vibrates with:

I’m so glad you’re home”.

A day steeped in goodness

is like a homecoming.

I’m so glad I’m home.
